Roger Pinney

Obituary: ROGER PINNEY  Long time Treasurer and member of The Muskoka Men of Song

Jan. 30, 1945 ~ Jan. 4, 2026

Locally respected tax accountant, Roger Ernest Pinney, age 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on January 4, 2026, in his Gravenhurst, Ontario home. He will be sadly missed by his adoring partner, Lynda Valcourt, and by both of their families and friends.
Roger Pinney was as great with figures as he was with a bass guitar, playing and helping the community at every chance, as well as attending and enjoying local concerts.
Roger was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on Jan. 30, 1945. He was a chartered accountant and worked at many different companies over the years. Many long time tax clients, as well as his volunteer organizations and his extended music community will miss him greatly.
Roger had a lifetime of enjoying aviation in all forms, volunteering in many organizations, and playing music (bass guitar — both electric and stand up) in the community and with many bands throughout his life. Roger was very social and touched the lives of many.
He is survived by his long-time partner Lynda, children Beth, Cameron and Christina (Ben), and his brother Steve (Linda). His grandchildren Myshiia, Jaidalyn and Druehn, Max and Zoe, and Maya, as well as many nieces and nephews will especially miss him.
Roger was predeceased by his sister Karen (Ross) and his parents Grace and Ernest.

We hope that everyone touched by his life can join in the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (cysticfibrosis.ca) or the Muskoka Men of Song Bursary Fund (muskokamenofsong.ca).

Founded in 1984, “The Muskoka Men of Song” is an open, men's choral group based in South Muskoka. The members share a love of music, a desire to perform to the best of their ability and a dream of helping others realize their own musical potential through the “Sean Kelly Memorial Bursary Fund”. Over the past years we have awarded over $68,000 to young musicians in the Muskoka area, some of whom have gone onto great careers in music. They are pleased to share their love of Music throughout the communities in Muskoka.

The money is raised at public concerts in June and December. Some of our bursary recipients perform in the program with the “Men of Song” during these concerts.  We also sing at other events during the year, as a public service.  Included are Remembrance Day, The Trek to Bethlehem in Bala as well as at retirement homes and funerals.  The men enjoy the camaraderie and the joy of singing as well as the fund raising.

Feel free to explore our web site and learn more about our choir, our people, our history, the people we support and the people who support our fund raising efforts.  Maybe you would consider joining us?

The Muskoka Men of Song choral group supports many local community events in addition to a regular performance schedule.  We also make considerations for private functions.
If you are interested in requesting the choir to perform for a private function, please contact the choir.
